Renovation of Xi’an Dahua Model

Location / Xi'an City, Shanxi Province
Floor Area / 89,050㎡
Year of Design / 2013
Year of Completion / 2014

Dahua Cotton Mill, established in the 1930s, has undergone a series of renovation and extension, with factory buildings of various periods serving as the records for the development of Xi’an. As a result, the high density of factory buildings, different from that of civil buildings, requires the renovation to rediscover the value of its unique texture. The brick-timber buildings of early periods were connected by courtyards with appropriate scales, and the rennovation design repaired the buildings to maintain their original styles while doing “careful addition” of modern-styled structures to meet new demands and present the co-existence of both the historic remains and the modern living facilities.
