Beijing Patent Office Building

Built for patent technology R&D and patent examination, the building adopts the form of a courtyard with regular outline and diversified interior spaces. The concept of “Luban lock” has been introduced into the design, where the prototype of traditional mortise and tenon work generates various shapes through combinations of components. The interior courtyard has several sunken parts, serving for various functions. Together with terraces for short stay, they have formed a multilayered garden system. On the façade, the solid part composed of vertical stone grids and the transparent part of glazed curtain walls complement each other, forming a type of “mortise and tenon”.
